Days 19 (August 11, 2013). The next stop in our trip is Capitol Reef National Park in Southern Utah. We will take two days to get there. Today we rode from the Uintas to Salina, UT, near the intersection of US-89 and the Interstate 70. There is not much in Salina except for a few motels and we were in desperate need for a shower after four days of camping and a lot of time sitting by a fire. The area of Utah south of I-70 is a wonderful land of red canyons, many of which are national parks or national monuments. We are planning to visit four of them and the first is Capitol Reef. Today we took UT 150 to Kamas, UT 32 to Heber City, and US-189 to Provo. In Provo we got some provisions and the continued south on UT-6 and then on US-89, a road that follows a fertile valley connecting several little towns: Fairview, Mt. Pleasant, Ephraim, Manti, Gunnison, and finally Salina. At Ephraim we took a little detour to follow a road into the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The gravel road climbs up to over 8,000 feet and offers great views of the town and the valley below. At Manti we encountered a huge temple that from far away looks like an European castle, a completely out of place castle.  At Salina we  stayed at the Super 8 Salina and had a great dinner (fajitas de res) at El Mexicano Restaurant.
